Having in mind that slightly more than half of the population (54.17%) surveyed* claimed not to have reconsidered their professional future, based on a happening during their practicum experience so far, the question that could be asked here is:
What is the common trend that makes almost than half of the sample population rethink if education is the path they want to follow?

Sadly, facts such as the following:
ResponderEliminar1. Teaching can be hard... really hard: when pre-service teachers face that, even though they know Language learning and language teaching theories in detail, those theories do not work out properly in the classrooms as their students are lazy, tough, stubborn, etc. and their classes do not go the way they wanted.
2. Wages are low: I did not want to mention something like this, but I've seen how students get discouraged because of that.
I think that one big reason to this is the salary. I know 3 people that did their practicum in different schools, and they don’t want to be teacher anymore because of the amount of money that they would earn at the end of the month instead of the effort they made. They considered translation as a future job.
ResponderEliminarI agree with the previous comments. I believe that the first reason is the awakening. During the practicum we realize how complex it is to succeed as a "good" or effective teacher and how demanding our labor can get. The second reason, the salary. Being a teacher (generally) is not a highly remunerated profession.

ResponderEliminarThere can be many things that can be taken into account such as the payment, the conditions in which the teacher gives the class or even very bad experiences with their students and/or co-workers.
ResponderEliminarI think that the common trend that makes people rethink about their future as teachers is that after their first teaching experience, they know that education isn't as easy as it looked in their university classes because when you teach, you face so many challenges and not everybody has the ability to overcome the difficulties that they may have. For me, being a teacher means to be very patient, kind, understanding and passionate because this is a job for people who love it and not everybody gives this profession the importance that it should have.
